The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office is proud to have sponsored the recent Sexual Crimes Conference which was delivered by the World Renowned Roy Hazelwood of the Academy Group.
This conference was open to all Law Enforcement agencies. The conference was hosted at the Raleigh County Convention Center on November 9th and 10th. In attendance were officers from the southern region of the state including Bluefield Police Department, Oak Hill Police Department, Beckley Police Department, the West Virginia State Police, and the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office just to name a few.

Sheriff Tanner has said that with the great turnout and the knowledge that was given, the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office can expect more great speakers to come and teach what they know.
Roy Hazelwood is a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation Agent. While working with the F.B.I., Roy and his team started the Behavioral Sciences Unit and worked on researching some of the most heinous crimes of our times. He worked on the “Barbie and Ken” case as well as the BTK murders. He has seen some of the worst that this world has to give. He has traveled to other nations to help and offer opinions on cases. He currently works with a company that he co-founded known as the Academy Group. His insight into sexual crimes is invaluable and is “truly cutting edge technology” said Sheriff Steve Tanner. Roy Hazelwood spoke to officers for over eight hours on such things as Modus Operandi, Signatures, and Ritual. His 16 Years with the B.S.U. allowed him to gain knowledge about sexual crimes and the people who commit them.
